The lowdown on working in the Call Centre and Customer Service industry
25 May 2011

Did you know?

Did you know the Call Centre and Customer Service industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Australia today? Did you know holding a degree is a bonus and not a necessity for career advancement - the largest percentage of managers in the industry only have a High School Diploma? And did you know that these managers earn between $80,000 and $160,000 per year? Finally, did you know that for an ambitious, hard-working employee the time it takes to progress to this level is about 4 -5 years?

If you didn’t know all of that, you probably also don’t know what it takes to make it in this industry. Well, after compiling the knowledge of our Call Centre & Customer Service consultants, we at Sinclair Consulting are here to clue you in.

So, what makes a successful Call Centre & Customer Service candidate?

  • Good communication skills. In an industry where a major part of your job description is to talk to people all the time, the ability to make yourself understood both is crucial.
  • Personality. Vibrant, friendly, up-beat personality and be a team player. Have a high level of pride in your work and the company you are representing.
  • Tenure. Your experience proves you will stick around, and have worked in roles for at least a year.
  • Teamwork. People from all walks of life work in the Call Centre and Customer Service industry so it is important you can easily assimilate and get on well with your work colleagues.
  • Sales. In sales orientated positions, good sales experience is a must.
  • Problem Solving. You show initiative to resolve issues yourself and not always escalate to management. You are willing to go that extra mile, above and beyond expectations.

Whether you’re already in the industry and looking to move up, or whether you’re trying to get your foot in the door, we can help. Contact one of our consultants to discuss your prospects today!
